Update: I appreciate the thoughtfulness put into your response and have updated my review accordingly. Thank you for explaining your processes, and thank you for understanding why I would've been so frustrated with the situation. The best case scenario is that they have incompetent staff. The worst case is that they attempted to take advantage of a young woman with minimal auto knowledge. My younger sister came to Honest 1 for her taillight being out, asking for a bulb change. They took a look and came back to her, claiming it was not the bulb, but they needed to use a device to scan her car computer to find the actual issue.... at $148 per hour. She knew I worked on cars, so she let them know that she would have me take a look before spending that much for diagnosis. Any competent mechanic would most definitely check fuses before resorting to the worst-case scenario of a bad or malfunctioning ECU. They didn't do that. They didn't even consider it. They just suggested an extremely expensive diagnostic tool instead of doing their damn job. It took me less than 2 minutes to pull out the fuse and surprise, surprise.... it was popped. This is an extremely common issue on the 21 Mitusbishi Mirages, so even a quick google yields the exact issue it was. It's extremely concerning, given that this is a college town, that they would attempt to take advantage and waste the money of a broke young adult.
Emma, or Emma’s Brother, I am very sorry to hear that you had a poor experience at our shop. Being Family owned and operated, some incompetence is always a worry. But, it's one we have minimized over 15 years of providing Quality and Honesty to our valued customers. Over those 15 years we have developed policies and procedures that help us protect our business while helping repair customers' vehicles. In this situation, our service person did exactly as expected. They inspected the suspect bulb, and upon discovering it was not the issue, and a simple bulb swap would not solve the problem, they proceeded to create a work order for further diagnostic work. That estimate included 1 hour of diagnostic time as an estimate, standard for every estimate. The most important part of the estimate is that signature at the bottom authorizing our shop to perform work on your vehicle. Without that authorization signature we do not open fuse panels, or engine bays. Or do anything else to the vehicle that could result in damage we would be responsible for. If we don’t have the signature, we can’t go further than we did. If we would have obtained that signature, we would have found the fuse, and resolved the issue in less than 15 minutes resulting in a final bill reflecting the actual time-cost of the repair. We could have, and should have explained this better. This is our fault. We take full responsibility and will continue to train our staff to uphold Honest1 Standards in the future. If you wish not to do business with us in the future, we understand and wish you the best. However, if you are willing to give us another chance, we would like to make it up to you. Please email [email protected] and we will do our best to make this a perfect experience next time.
